A Fundraiser to benefit: Instruments of Change:
Background Information Regarding IOC: Instruments of Change® was founded in 2008. Our parent organization, Covenant Children, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) charity dedicated to relieving the suffering of children throughout the world. Its main project has been sponsoring AIDS orphanages in Kenya since 2005. In 2008 and 2009 Instruments of Change® raised funds, collected donated instruments, traveled to Kimberly South Africa with a team of 10, and introduced music reading and performance to over 150 participants each year in the neighborhood of Homevale. IOC plans to return in 2012.
The Performers:
The featured group for both concerts is Tex Zimmerman and his All Star Revue a Dylan tribute band formed last Spring for Dylanfest 2009 (www.dylanfest.org) and dedicated to the music of Bob Dylan. It’s founder, UNT jazz professor Mike Steinel, leads the group using the stage name Tex Zimmerman and states “our repertoire is drawn from Bob Dylan’s musical career that has spanned 5 decades. We play songs from all the various phases of his career including: acoustic folk, folk rock, hard rock, rockabilly, gospel, country swing and everything in between.” Tex Zimmerman and His All Star Revue features vocalists Rosana and Gary Eckert and Gale Cruz. The rest of the band is made up of Paul Metzger on guitar, Brian Mulholland and Jeffry Eckels on bass, Stockton Helbing on drums and Tex Zimmerman (Steinel) on guitar, keyboards, harmonica and vocals. This year the Gospel concert will also feature a choir made up of outstanding vocalists from the Denton musical community.
At Dan’s on Monday Dylanfest guest artists will include: Jeffrey Barnes, Carl Finch, Andy Cooper, Mister Joe, Jeff Glover, and Kathryn Stachitus.
